Presentation
Overview
Codependence: An LDS Model
SUMMARY
This presentation answers the question
"What is codependence?" "How does it develop?" And "How does one
change?" This series of four lessons explains how surrounding loved ones develop the
codependent behaviors of Rescuing, Persecuting, and Suffering. Later
lessons explain how to replace these codependent behaviors with more Christ like behaviors
as Self-love, Love of others (Unconditional love), and Tough love.
OBJECTIVES
Codependence: An LDS Model has four main
objectives including: (1) defining the nature and power of codependence; (2) teaching what
Suffering Behaviors are and how to replace them with Self-love; (3)
teaching what Persecuting Behaviors are and how to replace them with Love of
others (Unconditional love); and (4) teaching what Rescuing Behaviors are
and how to replace them with Tough love.
APPROPRIATE AUDIENCE
This series of presentations is ideal for
adults including church leaders and particularly for parents who have children with
behavioral problems such as addiction.
SUGGESTED PRESENTER QUALIFICATIONS
Ideally, the presenter would be either a mental
health professional with experience in counseling individuals with codependence or an
individual who has had a personal experience in recovery from codependence. The presenter
should be well acquainted with the concepts covered in the book: Hold On To Hope.
TIME REQUIREMENTS
This presentation typically requires four
presentations. However, more presentations are possible if for example, the presenter
wishes to begin with the curriculum from The Addiction Cycle: An LDS Model and/or
spend more time on any particular codependent or self-reliant behavior.
Nevertheless, each presentation takes about 60 minutes. Class time and spacing can be
adapted to fit class members schedules, however, an evening class held once a week is
suggested.
